Cork-Based Spray Render
The customer contacted EvoHome for advice because their property was very cold and had started to suffer from internal damp problems. The issues appeared to be linked to chimney-related defects and areas where the external mortar had deteriorated, leaving parts of the property more exposed to the weather. Repointing was originally being considered, but after reviewing the property properly, EvoHome helped the customer compare several possible options, including repointing, external rendering and cladding.
The aim was to choose the right long-term solution for the home, not just the quickest repair. As part of the project, the chimney was rebuilt to deal with one of the key problem areas before the external finish was completed. A cork-based spray render system was then selected for the walls because of its breathable performance, insulating properties, modern appearance and long manufacturer-backed guarantee of up to 25 years.
The finished result gave the property a much cleaner, warmer and more modern look. The customer was extremely happy, left a five-star review, and has since returned to EvoHome for support with further home improvement plans, including a new kitchen, extension and underfloor heating. The customer originally contacted EvoHome for advice because their home was very cold and had started to suffer from internal damp.
The damp appeared to be linked to defects around the chimney and areas where the external mortar had failed or deteriorated. At first, repointing seemed like the obvious option. However, after looking at the property more carefully, it became clear that the customer needed a more complete solution that considered the condition of the building, the external appearance, breathability, warmth, weather protection and long-term value.
The main challenge was to deal with the underlying chimney-related issues, improve the external finish, and help the property feel warmer without simply covering up the problem or choosing a short-term cosmetic fix. EvoHome helped the customer look at a variety of suitable options, including repointing, external rendering and cladding.
Each option was considered against the property’s condition, the customer’s concerns, appearance, breathability, insulating benefit, maintenance, guarantee and overall value. The chimney was rebuilt as part of the project, helping to deal properly with one of the key areas linked to the damp and weather exposure concerns.
After comparing the options, the customer chose a cork-based spray render system for the external walls. This was selected because of its unique combination of breathable performance, insulating properties, flexible finish, fresh modern appearance and long manufacturer-backed guarantee of up to 25 years. This gave the property a clean, modern external finish while still being suitable for a home where breathability and moisture management were important considerations.
